Combinations will be taught to be used for a slow piece of music, then applied to faster pieces. Class will begin and end with yoga asana-based dance movement preparation. Please wear comfortable stretchy clothes, bring a yoga mat, snacks, water, a notebook and finger cymbals.

The emphasis will be on developing flexibility and stamina. Please bring a yoga mat and a notebook. Please do not eat at least 1.5 hours before this class.

This workshop focuses on developing and maintaining the sinuous carriage and muscle control required to execute extremely slow and controlled movements. Learn the fundamentals of conditioning for achieving optimum muscle control and safe hyperextension. Heavy emphasis on conditioning and strength training required for extreme muscle control. Drills and simple combinations are broken down emphasizing smooth articulation and fluidity. We will expand the drills into short combinations emphasizing extreme muscle control culminating into a complete ultra slinky choreography. Workshop will emphasize level changes and moving through different planes of space alternating the pace from slow to even slower. Basic floor work will also be covered. New Takes on Classic Foundation Movements - Isolations, posture, extension and building choreography. We will begin by developing our skill set of the fundamentals of faster paced tribal fusion bellydance. Strong emphasis is placed on developing and maintaining a strong posture. Muscle conditioning and flexibility training is also emphasized. We will focus on sharp articulation emphasizing efficient movement and cohesive rhythm. We will drill twists, locks, drops, squares, omis and shimmies working to develop the muscles in the lower abs and pelvic area to create crisp, strong hip articulation and abdominal control. We will then take it a step further and move on to drilling these movements within different planes of space, such as level changes and experimenting with variations on the left and right sides of the body. Special emphasis placed on drop turns and drop twists. Students will learn how to organize a repertoire of movement intuitively to create combinations and link them into short choreographies. The goal is to give students the tools to ultimately create a very complete performance including not only strong technique and choreography, but timing, rhythm, staging, affect (facial expression), mood and distinct artistic personality. We will also discuss the elements of strong stage presence and methods to creating a very strong performance persona.
